Collections

The Terra Nova Collection:

Five designs and over 500 colorways are included in this exciting collection. Inspired by Greek and African art, these designs are a bold departure from more traditional imagery. The background colors range from intense vulcan red to soft peach and celadon. The foregrounds are silk-screened onto the silk with shimmering metallic inks. Versatile in mood, these fabrics lend themselves to a variety of interior themes and applications.

Textured Grounds Collection:

Silkworks Textiles, offers large collections of textured grounds on both silk and cottons. These exceptionally beautiful fabrics are hand-painted and treated by a special process which causes multiple colors to combine and form random patterns. The resulting fabrics are an exciting blend of color and texture. They can be used by themselves or with any of the designs in the printed collections.

The Floreos Collection:

Many designs and hundreds of colorways are included in this magnificent collection. Available on both silk and cotton, the "Floreos" designs are abstract interpretations of flowers and leaves. The designs in this collection vary from the delicate, more formal "Carmen" pattern to the bold, sensuous "Ruby", to the textural "Ophelia" and to the rhythmic "Dessida". The colorways themselves vary from the subtle to the dramatic, and from the rich and regal to the warm and earthy. The tones of the fabrics can be applied to a variety of applications.

Dupion Silk

Applications:

Silkworks Textiles products which utilize Silk Dupion fabric are used in both commercial and residential upholstery, wall coverings and panels.

Description:

Silk Dupion has a beautiful luster and is soft to the touch. It drapes gracefully and resists creasing. due to the prismatic quality of the silk fiber, the fabric has a hint of reflection. Dupion is hand-woven in India with 100% silk fibers. This tightly woven fabric has a horizontal emphasis with a slightly irregular surface texture, which is an inherent and desirable aspect of this natural fiber.

Durability:

Silk fabrics are durable and long lasting.  Known for centuries as elastic and lightweight, silk is the strongest of natural fibers.  Silk contains a substance called Sericin, a gum-like coating released by the silkworm onto the silk fiber, which acts as a natural sizing.  Silk which has a natural resistance to moths and is not readily flammable,   has the highest hygroscopicity (The ability to absorb moisture without feeling wet) and this enables silk fabrics to acclimate to any environment.

Dyes:

Silkworks Textiles uses natural acid dyes. Silk absorbs dye extremely well without changing the original hand of the fabric. Dyes work by bonding directly to the fiber molecule, becoming an integrated part of the fiber. Transparent in nature, they will combine with previously applied colors to form a third color. To be permanently fixed acid dyes require a steam-heat setting . This process creates a durable, color-fast, and wash-fast fabric. Note: however, as with any dyed fabric, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided.

Printing pigments:

Metallic and flat pigments are silk-screened onto the Silk Dupion to create the surface imagery found on many Silkworks Textiles' fabrics. Pigments, unlike dye, must be held onto the surface by means of a "binder". They require dry heat and chemical setting.
